PRIVACY POLICY

Your sky is personal.

Golden Hour is designed without ads or cross-app tracking. This policy explains the data needed to run the service and the choices available to you.

Effective August 12, 2026

Effective August 12, 2026.

What we collect

We collect the email address and account identifier used to sign in; optional display-name and profile information; photos you choose to upload; sharing choices; friendships, likes, comments, reports, blocks, and settings; and an Expo push token if you enable sunset notifications.

If you allow Location Services, we collect precise latitude and longitude to calculate local sunset alerts and to place a photo on your map. Location is optional. Public viewers receive an approximate location, while you and accepted friends may receive the precise photo location.

When you contact support, we collect your email address, topic, and message. Cloudflare may process operational request and security information, such as IP address and server logs, to deliver and protect the service.

How we use data

We use data only for app functionality: authenticating accounts, storing and displaying sunsets, personalizing local sunset times, delivering notifications you request, operating social and safety features, responding to support, preventing abuse, and keeping the service reliable.

We do not sell personal data, run third-party advertising, or use your data to track you across apps or websites.

Sharing and service providers

Photos marked public can appear in Discover and the sunset relay with an approximate location. Friends-only photos and precise locations are limited to you and accepted friends. Do not post a location you are not comfortable sharing with that audience.

Cloudflare provides hosting, database, media storage, queues, and network protection. Expo processes notification tokens and notification contents when you enable push alerts. Apple processes information under its own terms when it provides App Store distribution and device notifications. These providers process data to deliver their services and are expected to protect it consistently with applicable law.

Retention and deletion

Uploaded sunset photos are retained for no more than two years unless you delete your account sooner. Support requests are retained for up to one year. Other account data is retained while your account is active or as reasonably needed for security, dispute resolution, and legal obligations.

You can permanently delete your account from You → Delete account and data in the iPhone app. This immediately deletes your account and stored photos from the active service. You can also contact us through the support page for privacy help.

Your choices

You can deny camera, photo-library, location, and notification permissions in iPhone Settings. Golden Hour remains usable without location or notifications. You control whether each new sunset is public or friends-only, and can report content or block another person from the photo safety menu.

Children and changes

Golden Hour is for people age 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact support so it can be removed.

We may update this policy as the service changes. Material updates will be dated here, and we will provide any notice required by law.
